Artist Profile — Rebeccah Power

Using the immense winter sky and rugged landscape of her home on Boonwurrung country on the Bass Coast in Victoria as subject matter, Rebeccah Power creates paintings that can be described as atmospheric, ethereal and hazy. Her new series of paintings, titled ‘Fuzz’ (‘to become blurred or indistinct’) is a continuation of her current practice that is driven by the desire to embody, in painting, the idea that the universe is constantly unfolding out of a range of possibilities.

Through the act of scumbling successive layers of colour pigment on highly textured watercolour paper, Rebeccah is able to create a sense of movement that evokes a liminal space between formlessness and form, helping to anchor us in the present moment and provide a deep connection to all things.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) from the Victorian College of Arts in 2000, Rebeccah has developed an extensive exhibition history that includes shows locally, nationally and internationally, receiving a number of accolades, including the Besen Family Foundation: Arts and Culture Grant, The MCollection Award; Peoples Choice Award, Copyright Agency Limited; Creative Industries Development Fund and Calleen Art Award (finalist). Her work can be found in government, corporate and private collections nationally and internationally.
