SARANA HAEATA

Sarana Haeata is a self-taught Maori–Australian artist based in Margaret River, Western Australia. Haeata’s painting practice explores themes of movement, surrender, and the emotional landscapes of the female experience. Deeply influenced by her role as a mother to four daughters, her work reflects the shifting rhythms of motherhood and the quiet resilience found within it.

Working with layered abstraction and sketch-like markings over figurative forms, Haeata’s paintings evoke a sense of transience and emotional depth, capturing moments suspended in motion. She has held several solo exhibitions in Australia and has exhibited internationally in Los Angeles.

“My paintings are a contemplation of movement and surrender. They capture the act of letting go into the relentless current that surrounds and shapes us. Each piece becomes a moment suspended in motion — an echo of the unseen forces that carry us forward. Layered, sketch-like markings over abstracted figures recall pencil drawings, softly reflecting the impermanence of life. Drawing on my experience of motherhood, I explore a sense of calm not in stillness, but in yielding to motion itself. - Saran Haeata
