Amy Wright is an Australian contemporary landscape artist whose work, rooted in figuration, explores the vitality of nature and captures wild and untamed landscapes through an abstracted lens. With a diverse career in textile design, fine art, and floristry, Wright's artworks are narratives rich in pattern, texture, and colour. Based in Regional Victoria, she creates from her garden studio, fully immersed in the landscapes that inspire her. Wright's work is highly sought after both in Australia and Internationally, with collectors and gallery representation worldwide.

Known for bold and unashamedly wild depictions of the landscape, Wright is inspired by the untamed, often overlooked and abandoned landscapes, where nature is allowed to flourish unchecked, reclaiming its space from human interventions. Each canvas serves as a Wunderkammer, blending reality with imagination and myth; wild plants sprawl, landscapes soar with tiered forms, and horizon lines often fade into obscurity.

With a background in surface textile design and floristry, pattern, texture, and colour are fundamental to Wright’s practice. Working primarily from memory, she intricately weaves detailed textures and patterns together using a painting technique akin to collage, constructing compositions from cropped fragments to explore the interplay of hidden and revealed elements within her work.

In Sunbleached Eden, Amy Wright explores the tension between fragility and endurance in landscapes  shaped by heat, scarcity, and improvisation; gardens caught in the in-between,  both dying and blooming, suspended  in the shimmering stillness of high sun.

Drawing from arid environments, including the Cactus Garden, makeshift greenhouses, and the quiet beauty of the utilitarian, the works suggest mirages in the sand, sunbleached surfaces, and iridescent flashes of light. Heat transforms these landscapes: plants become whitewashed, their colours drained, leaving behind a muted, glowing luminescence. They appear both delicate and defiant, fragile yet enduring. The palette is grounded in colours of utility: dusty greens, faded industrial greys, and pinks that recall translucent sheeting left too long in the sun. Wright renders the terrain in dirtied ochres, off-whites, and bleached jade, while mirage tones flicker at the edges — coral, silver haze, with the grounding of russet reds.

Sunbleached Eden is an ode to what’s often overlooked: the tenacious, improvised beauty of survival; gardens that persist in silence, halfway between life and loss, holding their place beneath an unforgiving sun.
