Nastia Gladushchenko’s works explore themes of identity, human connection, the environment and human/animal displacement. Her playful, bold and fluid shapes aim to bring about wonder, contemplation and a desire for humans to connect with the natural world and with each other.
Alongside small-scale works, Gladushchenko is interested in creating large-scale, site-specific public art pieces in urban environments for and with local communities.
Living and working from the home she designed with her partner on a bush block in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Gladushchenko often takes inspiration from the forms, colours, smells and textures of the natural environment around her. She is deeply inspired by her childhood memories, which centre around the natural environment, the dream-like city she was born in by the Black Sea, folk art and architecture/the built environment. Whether her works are indoors or outdoors, large or small, she hopes that they spark conversations between friends and strangers about preserving and protecting the environment.
